Who can get a card?

Resident cards (free)

  • Port Arthur residents
    • proof of residency required (TX driver's license, utility bill, city directory)
  • Non-residents who own property in Port Arthur
    • proof of ownership via current tax receipt in applicant's name required
  • Non-residents who are current students, faculty, or staff members at Lamar State College - Port Arthur
    • current College ID required
  • Owners or operators of businesses in Port Arthur
    • proof of location on business letterhead required
    • one card per business

Non-resident cards

*Same privileges as resident cards; good for one year; verification of address required

  • Individual membership: $20
    • Single library card
  • Family membership: $30
    • Cards for 2 adults and children at the same address
  • Child membership: $15
    • Card for child under 18 who is living at home
    • Signature required from parent or guardian who accepts responsibility for materials borrowed
    • Videos limited to adult cards only

What can I do with my library card?

  • Borrow books, DVDs, CDs, and more
  • Access e-books, e-audiobooks, and streaming music
  • Access online resources such as research databases and learning materials

How long can I keep my borrowed materials?

  • Videos: 1 week
    • 1 renewal allowed
  • Everything else: 3 weeks 
    • 2 renewals allowed for books and magazines
    • 1 renewal allowed for everything else

What are the fines if I return materials after the due date?

Late fines

  • Videos: $1/day; maximum fine of $10
  • Everything else: $.10/day; maximum fine of $4

Lost item replacement fee

  • Cost of item + processing fee
